General Rules of Conduct

The Siena College Library is a place for study, reading, and use of library materials and services. In order for the Library to provide such a place, the following rules have been established.
Consumption of Food/Beverages
Food is limited to official College events in rooms L26, L12, 131, and 212 only, with advanced permission of the Library Director. Anyone with food outside of these rooms will be asked to leave the Library.
Beverages in covered containers are permitted in the Library. If you spill liquid on the tables or floor, please go to the restroom and bring back something to clean up the spill. Make sure to throw out your garbage before leaving the Library. No alcoholic beverages are permitted in the Library.
Smoking/Tobacco Use
No smoking or use of other tobacco products is permitted in the Library.
Quiet Areas/Study Areas
All public study areas (exluding the Student Lounge, Group Study Rooms, and the Silent Study Area) will observe "Library Quiet" – i.e., occasional and limited low conversation or discussion. Conversations of any length should be continued in the Student Lounge, a Group Study Room, or outside the Library. Expressly forbidden are:

using portable telephones or audiovisual devices without headphones

excessive or disruptive conversations

causing sounds which are disruptive to other library patrons or staff

any other activity which is inconsistent with activities such as studying, reading, use of library materials, and other similar conduct normally associated with the use of a college library
Inappropriate or Disruptive Behavior
Any behavior that is inappropriate or disruptive to the mission of the Library as a place for study and research is prohibited. This includes loitering, disruptive noises or activity, using or being under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances, using abusive language, threatening or harassing behavior, running, rollerblading or the like, standing on furniture, and sitting or lying on tables or the floor. People who violate these rules may be removed from the Library and have library privileges revoked.
Personal Possessions
Do not leave personal belongings unattended. The Library is not responsible for any lost or stolen personal items. The patron should notify Siena College Public Safety Office of all thefts.
Children
Children should not be left unattended in the Library. Parents/guardians or the adult accompanying children will be held responsible for the children’s behavior and any resulting damage.
Non-service Animals
The only animals which may be brought into the Library are service animals or those participating in library-sponsored programs.
Treatment of Library Materials & Equipment
All library materials and equipment should be handled with care. The patron using them will be held responsible for any damage that occurs during their use. Patrons should notify someone on the library staff if something is broken or damaged.
